As a UK based collector, do you find many Gorey items locally, or do you have to use the internet and buy overseas for most of your Gorey material? They are sick, deadpan, mean-spirited and often hilarious. I wonder if it is creepier than original Grimm gotey. I will be showing the piece of art when I do a posting about that book! I bought a bunch of Edward Gorey books for a dollar at a library sale. This is one of my very favorite Gorey books and edeard be a good starting place for someone new to him.

Apr 30, Pamela rated it liked it Shelves: Edward Gorey is a very unique author. Gorey pulls out all the stops and produces intricate drawings that are densely detailed. Father apparently killed in the war, mother commits suicide because she’s so depressed, uncle dies from a brick falling on his head, she is bullied, robbed, sold into slavery to a drunk, gorry blind, stumbles into the street and gets run over by her actually alive father who doesn’t even remember what his child looked like.

Lists with This Book. Her blissful existence ends when her father is called to fight in Africa. The Hapless Child Hardcover Lovely little story for an adult or child, telling the story of little Charlotte Sophia, whose life drastically alters from living with parents who were ‘kind and well-to-do’ Even with the plot twists and turns, I find The Hapless Child to be a rather straightforward tale, and for me it less engaging than his more non-linear stories which invite the reader to join in and “fill in the blanks”.

Still, the art is amazing – so Glrey and the story is every horrible thing that can happen to a person does and life goes from amazing to a showcase of horrors. Monday, November 10, The Hapless Child.
